1. WHAT IS A LOAD BANK USED FOR?

A “load bank” is a piece of equipment used to perform a load test by producing artificial loads on the generator by bringing the engine up to an appropriate operating temperature and pressure level. A load bank test ensures that your generator will operate correctly when required so that you can depend on it fully in an emergency. It verifies that all primary components of the generator are in good working order. A load bank test should be carried out at least once a year.

2. WHY TEST YOUR GENERATOR?

When a diesel-powered generator is not used frequently or only runs on light loads, it can be prone to a build-up of unburned fuel and carbon, particularly in the exhaust line. This can cause the generator to malfunction, suffer damage, become a fire hazard and even lead to a complete breakdown. The use of a load bank prevents this and determines the ability of the generator to produce maximum power in terms of amperage and output.

Is your generator capable of handling your load? When was the last time it was tested and verified? Our load banks, in 1kW increments, are mounted in a self-contained unit with bodywork and ‘power lock’ quick connectors.

3. HOW DOES IT WORK?

On-site load bank testing is an essential part of generator performance testing as part of the preventive maintenance programme. Quality equipment, calibrated loadbanks, qualified personnel and proven test procedures are the keys to a comprehensive load test and Bulterys guarantees this.

During on-site load bank testing, either in your workshop or ours, our experienced technicians monitor critical engine parameters. The engine runs at or near full load while it completes a full heating and cooling cycle. Other critical engine parameters (engine temperature, oil pressure, fuel pressure, etc.) are also monitored during the tests.
